Taper bearings

Failure Analysis

The ability of this design to handle heavy radial loads and single direction thrust loads has made tapered roller bearings one of the most popular SKF bearings. SKF Tapered Bearings greatly reduce friction and increase load carrying capabilities. Using the highest quality material and design provide a marked increase in operational reliability under heavy loads and misaligned conditions. The basic tapered roller bearing consists of two separate components. The first part, called the cone, consists of the inner race, rollers and cage. The outer ring is called the cup. The unique feature of this bearing type is that all the components are specially angled or tapered to a common point known as the apex, so that all the elements can roll along the same axis. Because the tapered bearings can only accommodate thrust loads in one direction, it is usually used in pairs such as in front inner or outer wheel bearings, They are also used extensively in differentials and transmissions. Precise engineering enables SKF tapered bearing to be easily adjusted on clearance or fit between the cup and cone assembly.
